On the fence about whether you should get a wedding video or not? Did you know that one of the biggest regrets brides have after their wedding day is that they didn’t get a wedding video. You’ve probably read all the pros and cons about wedding videos, but here are the two most overlooked reasons as to why having a videographer on your wedding day is more important than you think.

1. After months and months of planning, your wedding day finally arrives, and it goes by in a flash. There is so much of your wedding day that you forget or never see. The pre-ceremony prep, your vows, the ceremony itself, the reception, all go by so fast you hardly have time to take it in. What makes a wedding video so different from wedding photographs, is that you get to see and hear everything that you missed or forgot. Ask a friend or family member who were recently married… ask what they remember about their ceremony….their reception. Chances are, a lot less than you would think. A wedding video brings it all back, and then some, and let’s you relive your wedding day over and over again.

2.  You always hear from people older than you how fast the years fly by. Well, in this case they’re right. Ask a friend or family member who is celebrating their 5th, 10th, or 20th wedding anniversary, and they will tell you they can’t believe how fast the years have gone by. How long has it been since you graduated from high school or college? 10 year reunion coming up? Went by quick didn’t it. With a wedding video, you can go back and relive your wedding day like it was yesterday. With the HD quality of today’s cameras, you’ll experience it as if it were yesterday. Do your parents have a wedding video? Do you wish they did? Can you imagine your kids watching grandma and grandpa getting married? Do you wish you could see your grandparents wedding ceremony? How young everyone looked? A wedding video is not only for you, but for your family and future generations to come.

All our videos are shot in Cinematic Documentary style. We present your wedding day as it happens. All the main parts of your wedding day are shown in their entirety. Your ceremony, your first dance, your dance with your parents, cake cutting, toasts, and your bouquet and garter toss. All there for you to experience at anytime. Wedding Videos are great to watch on your wedding anniversaries. It brings back all the reasons why you fell in love and got married.

From time to time we are asked by couples during our consultations if we could recommend a photographer for their wedding day. There are a lot of very good photographers here in Las Vegas, in fact we have probably only worked with a small percentage of them. So all we can do is to recommend some of the photographers we have worked with. There are some we have worked with multiple times, and some just once. So how do we decide which ones to recommend? Most of them do great work. Also their pricing can vary greatly from photographer to photographer. Then there is the subject of their style of photography. So with different budgets and the varied tastes of each couple, we’ve decided to recommend on the merits of personality, professionalism, how they treat other vendors, and how they interact with guests, bridal party, family members, and the wedding couple. This is someone you will be spending most of your wedding day with, aside from the videographer, which is why we have chosen the above criteria. We aren’t able to list every photographer we have worked with, so we have listed those we feel are the standouts….the one’s we were impressed with by their work ethic, creativity, and overall personalities. It’s up to you to find the style you like, and the one’s who would fit into your budget, but we hope this may help narrowing down your choices easier.

We are meeting new photographers all the time so we’re sure this list will continue to grow. If you have any questions or comments concerning any of those listed, drop us an email or leave a comment.

Now that your wedding is over, you’ve watched your wedding video, thank you cards have been sent out, and with those endless hours of planning behind you, what do you do with your all those wedding photos? Five hundred,a thousand, fifteen hundred photos on your photo disc? You can share them digitally on social media, have prints made for a photo album…but what about that one amazing photo your photographer was able to capture of the two of you on your wedding day. You know the one. We came across a website we thought our currently booked Bride and Grooms, or future Bride and Grooms would be interested in, www.royalcanvas.com. We thought that their canvas prints were a perfect way to showcase that one special photograph in your home for everyone to see. Their prices look fair, and the quality very nice. We have no affiliation with this company, but we thought we would share this with everyone and anyone who might be looking for a product like this for their wedding photos. With today’s digital technology, and the quality of photographer’s these days, this is almost a no brainer. If anyone decides to try them out, we’d love to know if the quality of the photos are as advertised so we can pass the information on to our future Bride and Grooms.

RoyalCanvas@www.royalcanvas.com

In a future blog we will recommend some photographers we have worked with over the years that we feel would be worth your consideration when looking for a wedding photographer.

We have met with a lot of couples over the years. We’ve tried to take all the questions we have received about our videos and services and incorporate them onto our website pages. Anything not addressed on our pages have been addressed on our FAQ page. We want our prospective couples to be able to have as many questions answered on our website before they choose to contact us. There are some things that come up in our meetings with couples that we thought we would share here.

Short Videos: Some couples don’t want their video to be so short that most of their wedding day ends us on the cutting room floor. “Cinematic” wedding videos do tend to be short. We’ve seen them as short as five minutes for the whole wedding video to an average of fifteen to twenty minutes long. They are beautiful to watch, but they do edit out a lot, especially when the ceremony itself runs about 15-20 minutes long. Some do offer raw footage on a DVD, but trust us, watching raw footage of your wedding is not the preferred way to watch your video. Most of our clients want as much of their wedding day in their video as possible. That is why we shoot and edit in Cinematic Documentary Style.Your video is presented in full length so you get to see your wedding day as it happened naturally. Our videos average approximately 90 minutes in length.

Quality: Unbelievably, a few wedding videographers are still shooting in the 4×3 standard definition format. A recent bride said that her sister’s recent wedding video was square (4×3) and looked blurry. There shouldn’t be any reason these days that wedding videographers aren’t shooting their videos in 16×9 High Definition. All our videos are shot on Sony 1080p HD cameras. For full HD viewing, we recommend watching your video on a Blu-ray disc.

What you don’t see: Before coming to us, sometimes couples have already viewed other wedding videographers work. One of the concerns we hear is that their highlight videos look nice, but when they view an actual wedding video, sometimes it’s shaky and out of focus, among other concerns. We suggest that if all they offer are highlight videos on their website/youtube page, is to request a completed wedding video for you to watch. Besides highlight videos, we also have included one complete wedding video and two 20-30 minute highlight videos to view on our website/youtube page. This way our style of shooting and editing is there for you to see with no surprises.

Unprofessional: Another concern we’ve had come up is when they’ve attended other people’s weddings, sometimes the videographer is disruptive(in the couple’s face, bright lights), or unprofessional…camera in one hand, and a drink in another. This can also go for photographers. We did one wedding where the photographer almost missed the cake cutting because he was at the bar. When he got close to us, we could smell the liquor on his breath. Totally unacceptable in our opinion. We are there to capture your wedding day, not be a part of it. We try to be as unobtrusive as possible. One of the common comments that run through our reviews is that they were hardly aware we were there, which is how it should be.

What we offer:

*A full length wedding video, shot in Cinematic Documentary Style.
*All video is shot in beautiful 16×9 1080p HD video and delivered on Blu-ray discs.
*We have over 20 videos on our youtube page, so you can see if our style of shooting and editing is right for you.
*We are always professional, unobtrusive, and strive to present to you the best possible video.
*For answers to even more questions and concerns, be sure to check out our FAQ page.

Mo had been planning her Las Vegas Wedding for over a year, and when the day came, everything was how she had imagined it to be.  Planning a destination wedding from Australia was not an easy task, but Mo was up for the challenge, and she came through with flying colors. She had her wedding ceremony at the lovely Flamingo Garden Chapel. Just a couple of hours later, they renewed their vows with Elvis as the officiant at the Graceland Wedding Chapel. Party and celebration was at Maggiano’s Restaurant on the Strip.  Festivities included a photo booth, an Elvis performance, showgirls, and a visit from Darth Vader and a couple of Stormtroopers for a world class lightsaber battle.  Her reception screamed Las Vegas…and everyone loved every minute of it. Guests came from around the world – Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Africa, and the United States. We wish Mo & Casey a lifetime of happiness…and may the force be with you always.

Looking for a Venue?

We’ve put together some of our favorite locations for weddings and/or receptions.  They were chosen for their photographic qualities, the “feel” of the location, the staff and quality of house vendors (dj’s, photographers), and because we just really liked working there. We have no affiliation with any of these locations. These are purely our picks, our opinion.  A complete list of the locations we have filmed here in Las Vegas can be found on our website on our FAQ page at www.langdonvideo.com

In no particular order:

Siena Golf Club:

Located on the west side of town, this is a beautiful location with waterfalls, small lakes, beautiful landscaping, and a very nice room for your reception.

Red Rock Country Club:

Also on the west side of town in Summerlin, another beautiful location perfect for an outdoor wedding.  Across from the ceremony location is a lake with waterfalls and a great view of the mountains.

The Grove:

A quaint and well landscaped location for a really nice outdoor wedding.  They have three areas in which to choose from where you can have your ceremony. In the past few years they have really upgraded their reception hall, which now makes it one of our favorite reception rooms in which to videotape receptions.  It’s a little out of the way from the strip, but if your’e looking for something like this, it’s perfect.

Rainbow Garden’s Garden Room:

A beautiful room for a ceremony and/or reception.  This room is decorated from ceiling to floor with floral.  A popular location, and rightly so.  Located on West Charleston, not too far from the Strip.

Top of the Cannery Hotel II:

This is a local hotel located on Boulder Highway.  This is a great place for a reception.  The large room is private, has a great view of the Las Vegas valley, outdoor patio to really take in the view, and has a luxurious feel to it.

Dragonridge Golf Club:

Located in Henderson, this is a great location for photos, especially if you take a short golf cart ride to the lake and waterfall area of the golf course. There is an indoor and outdoor area for ceremonies.  We don’t recommend the indoor location, but the outdoor location by the pool is nice with it’s grassy area and large waterfall. Their reception room is large and lovely, and if used at night has a great view of the strip.

Lakeside Weddings:

Having a small wedding?  This is another lovely place for a ceremony and reception.  Located in Desert Shores, it has three lakeside locations to choose from to have your ceremony, and nicely decorated rooms, also with a lakeside view, for your reception. Our favorite of the three is Heritage Garden.  It’s especially lovely for a nighttime wedding ceremony.

Emerald at Queensridge:

Located in the Summerlin area, this is another lovely area for a medium to small wedding.  The reception room is huge with high ceilings, great lighting, and a really nice dressing room with more than enough room for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready. It also have a large full length multi glass mirror for the bride to make sure everything is perfect for her walk down the aisle.

Angel Park Golf Club:

Large grassy area for your outdoor ceremony, beautiful waterfalls behind you as you recite your vows, and a nice sized room for your reception. Also a great location for a sunset wedding. One of the more popular venues.

There are many other beautiful locations to get married here in Las Vegas, but these just happen to be a few of our favorites.

Let us know your favorite place to get married in Las Vegas.  Leave a comment and share your thoughts with other Brides.

Congratulations to Lisa & Jacob. In from California, with some guests coming in as far as Taiwan, they had a beautiful wedding ceremony, in spite of the threat of rain all day, at Angel Park Golf Club. Because of the weather, they were presented with a double rainbow, and a beautiful sunset. Their day was topped off by the release of 20 or so Chinese Lanterns.  We wish the both of them years of happiness.

Recently there has been news about a couple of Wedding Photography and Videography companies that have turned out to be scams. The odds are that there are more throughout the country. So how do you choose a reputable Wedding Photography and Videography business and protect yourself? The following recommendations are based on personal observations, working with numerous wedding photographers over the years, and our own personal opinion.

1) Always Go Local. The companies mentioned before were not local businesses. One was a nationwide company, and the other one covered four states. Know who you are dealing with. Check out their website, reviews, and Google the business and owners name. With a local vendor, you can meet with them, making sure they are a good fit, and you can be sure they are who they say they are. Destination Bride?  If you come to town before your wedding, ask to meet with them. One commonality among these two businesses was that they offered unlimited hours and no travel fees. Sound too good to be true? If you research most reputable wedding photography and videography businesses, they rarely offer unlimited hours, and usually charge some kind of travel fee depending on the distance. These days there are a lot of people who buy a camera, label themselves a wedding photographer or videographer, and then decide to hang up a shingle. Make sure you are dealing with a professional. If they are an amateur, make sure you are aware of that ahead of time and make your decision to hire them based on that.

2) See The Work. The problem with national companies, is that you have no idea who  will show up to photograph/videotape your wedding. The wedding photos and videos shown on their website are almost useless. Who was responsible for those photos/videos? Do they even work for the company anymore? Do they even work in your state? They contract out your wedding, usually to a freelancer, so you never know who will show up to your wedding. You hire a wedding photographer or videographer because you like the photographs and/or video demos you’ve seen on their website and blogs. It’s only right that you get that person who is responsible for the work. If there are more than one photographer or videographer on staff, ask to see the work of the person they plan to send out to your wedding. We worked one wedding where the photographer sent out her daughter, who hadn’t photographed a wedding in over a year, never shot a wedding in a church, (this was a catholic wedding), and showed up in a college sweat jacket. The couple hired the photographer because they liked her style, artistry and the photographer herself, they didn’t hire her daughter. In our opinion, that was so wrong on many different levels. Each photographer and videographer has their own style and ideas. Make sure you get who and what you are paying for.

3) Make Sure You Have a Contract. Usually the retainer/deposit is non-refundable. To protect yourself, make sure there is something in the contract that states if they are unable to complete the contract, (a no show), they are liable for returning the retainer/deposit. With the above mentioned scams, the contract only stated that the retainer/deposit was non-refundable, nothing about a no show liability.  Unfortunately, most of these couples will probably never get their retainer/deposit back, even though no one showed up to their wedding. Many other couples have not received any photos or videos, and probably never will, even when someone did show up to their wedding.

We recommend Googling articles concerning this subject. There is a lot more information and ideas on how to book a reputable photographer or videographer.  We’ve listed the three we think are the most important, especially with the recent scams that were perpetrated on so many couples.

Any ideas you would like to share, please leave a comment.
